Studies in Vitamin A Metabolism in Vitamin E-deficient Rats

Abstract
|
|
|
In vitamin E-deficient rats using the isolated perfused liver system, vitamin A transferred to the livers was observed and also high doses - of vitamin A by means of tube feeding. Vitamin A storage in the livers was observed and the following conclusions were obtained:
1) In the isolated perfused liver system, vitamin A transfer to the livers of vitamin E-deficient rats were significantly decreased to half as much as to that of vitamin E control-fed rats.
2) 2, 000 IU or 10, 000 IU of vitamin A was administered daily to rats for 3 days, then vitamin A storage in the livers was observed. Vitamin A storage in the livers of vitamin E-deficient rats was insignificantly lower than in those of vitamin E control-fed rats.
